Swift Systems was established with a mission to address Malawi’s pressing challenges in energy, food, and water security through swift, scalable, and sustainable innovations. As climate change intensifies, electricity supply remains unreliable, and post-harvest losses persist, we recognized an urgent need for resilient, solar-powered solutions that enable communities and enterprises to not just survive—but thrive.

Our work directly supports the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals: SDG 2 (Zero Hunger), SDG 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation), SDG 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy), SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure), SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities), and SDG 13 (Climate Action).

The Reality in Numbers

• Food Insecurity: Over 5 million Malawians face food shortages annually due to poor rainfall, unpredictable weather, and inefficient farming practices. Without consistent irrigation, crop yields remain dangerously low.
• Electricity Access: Out of 21.1 million Malawians, only about 3.2 million have access to grid electricity. This leaves over 17.9 million people, mostly in rural areas, relying on unreliable alternatives. Power outages disrupt businesses, hospitals, and homes daily.
• Water Scarcity: 60% of Malawians depend on rain-fed agriculture, making them highly vulnerable to droughts. Without proper irrigation, food production collapses, worsening hunger and poverty.
• Post-Harvest Losses: Every year, farmers lose up to 400,000 metric tons of crops—especially tomatoes, vegetables, and fruits—due to a lack of cold storage. This results in massive financial losses and worsens food insecurity nationwide.
